Self Care During the Summer Months

Self Care in the Summer Months

Summertime is almost everyone's favorite season. From the gorgeous weather, to summer romances and vacations, summer is the season of fun! But with that "season of fun" we can also have massive self discoveries about who we are and what aspects of ourselves we need to grow, nurture, or even change! So having a deep understanding of self care and how we can utilize it in the smallest, but most powerful ways, can really make a huge impact on our summer!!

Self Care Tips

The first step to creating a self care routine or plan, is to understand what activities nourish your soul or "fill your cup" and which activities don't. This requires a little bit of deep thought, because in order for us to understand what we like, we have to understand what we don't like. Often times if we've been living life on autopilot (what I call living life before we "wake up" or begin to self develop), we are going with the flow of those around us, not necessarily doing what we truly enjoy.

My first suggestion would be to start taking "normal" self care routines and tips, and try them on for size! As adults, we often times base our foundations of what we think we "know" off of our experiences from our childhood. This means that if we think we hate broccoli because we hated it as a child, we are likely to hate broccoli as an adult, when in reality, we haven't tried broccoli as an adult. Maybe our parents were just really bad at cooking broccoli, or you never even tried it!! (The real reality there huh LOL)

Self Care Ideas:

  1. Taking a walk or spending time in nature
  2. Picking up a hobby you enjoy
  3. Meditation
  4. Salt Baths
  5. Proper Nutrition (Such as drinking enough water, taking necessary vitamins, eating a balanced diet)
  6. Dedicating time to reading and expanding your awareness

Self care doesn't have to be spa days, pedicures and fancy dinners. Self care is nourishing our souls, our emotional well being, our mental health and our physical bodies. By setting aside time and placing a value on our self care, we can begin to heal from our past traumas, experiences, emotions, and circumstances.

I challenge you this summer to push the boundaries you have had placed upon you. Challenge what you've told yourself you dislike, challenge what you've told yourself you enjoy. Begin placing a value on your time, demanding respect from yourself and discover what your truth really is. Are you accepting someone else's reality in place of your own, or are you systematically applying a false reality to your life without any cross examination or judgement?

Self Care for the Soul

By practicing self care throughout the year, we can begin to create an environment that is not only healthy for our souls, but we begin to reprogram ourselves, which allows us to begin the journey to true happiness. When we begin this journey, we are making space in our spiritual selves for our souls! We are making space for the energies we want in our lives, creating the template for what is to come in our future, and truly beginning the pursuit of happiness.

This is what we are placed upon this Earth to do. To share love and peace among our friends, families, and communities. To appreciate and adore the lives we've been given- the good and the bad.  We have been placed in this lifetime for a reason, and it's time to see beyond what you have been pressured into wanting by society (Keeping up with the Jones') and what you truly want in your soul.
